Abstract
Vertical rod conductors have been tested in a high voltage laboratory under simulated lightning conditions. These experiments led to the determination of the inception field necessary to launch an upward positive leader, which is a function of the rod height, confirming Rizk´s models. The efficiency of electrical triggering techniques added to a single rod is also investigated
