Abstract
There is a great deal of interest in the replacement of dish antennas by multilayer printed antennas for the reception of DBS. DBS reception requires a circularly polarized antenna with high gain and low sidelobe level. The sidelobe level is specified to minimize interference from other satellites. The printed antennas have relatively high sidelobe level because of unwanted radiation from the feed line. This paper presents a broadband multilayer printed antenna that reduces the sidelobe level as well as increases the antenna efficiency. The method of making broadband printed antenna using sequential arrangements of radiating elements is introduced. The measured results show significant reductions in the sidelobe level and increase in the antenna bandwidth as compared to the other types of printed antennas.
