Abstract
A search-time formula to calculate the minimum options per page in a visual menu retrieval system was developed by E. Lee and J. MacGregor (1985). The formula is modified for use in auditory database retrieval tasks. Calculated times using the formula favored depth over breadth, using a number of different system timing variables. Actual data revealed that though database structures favoring depth are less efficient than structures that favor breadth, the search times were not statistically different with the two structures
