  • Abstract
The idea of using computers for an artistic activity like music springs from the first studies of what an intelligent machine could do. Nowadays, the world of music and the world of computational science are getting closer thanks to the findings of many researchers who cover different aspects of musical language. This paper introduces a musical composition model which creates rhythmic patterns through a system based on genetic algorithms, with the interaction of several musicians. This model overcomes to a great extent the limitations of the present automatic composition systems with regard to the adjustment to the process of human composition, as can be concluded from the actual validation and the audition of the musical results. In this respect, the creation of a first composer is proposed, following human evolution in western music, which allows an evolutionary development, not only in the system´s performance but also in the addition of new functions
