Abstract :
National Semiconductor is a large multi-national manufacturer of high-volume semiconductors. Most of its assembly and test facilities are completed in Southeast Asia. Its Penang, Malaysia facility produces in excess of one billion units per year. This paper describes how this site took advantage of technology enablers and innovative people to internally operate as modular, highly flexible, mini factories responding to the varied needs of its customers
