Abstract :
In the last two decades embedded Flash technologies took over a dominating role in several IC market segments. Two key application areas driving leading edge embedded Flash technologies and forming the majority of the corresponding market volume are automotive microcontrollers (μCs) and smartcards. This paper gives an overview of these technologies, their applications, requirements, key challenges as well as future outlook.
