Abstract
A method to lower the resonant frequency of a rectangular microstrip antenna, without degrading the radiation characteristics is proposed. The overall reduction in the area of the new antenna is more than 60% of a standard rectangular patch antenna operating at the same frequency. This antenna may find applications in large phased arrays where the size is a major concern.
