Abstract :
A new absorbing boundary condition (ABC) used to absorb the modal field is proposed in the FDTD simulation of homogeneous waveguides with arbitrary cross section and conducting boundary together with a method to find the modal field distribution. A new modal ABC with a closed-form discrete Green´s function is used for the effective mode absorption. The modal transverse field distribution and the cutoff frequency which are needed for the ABC implementation are calculated through the two dimensional FDTD simulation. The proposed method is verified through the simulation of a ridged waveguide.
