Abstract
Research in microelectronics is in increasingly forcussing on self-powered electronic systems to fill the need for emerging applications such as remote wireless sensor networks and medical electronics. This research shows that achievement of self-powered systems requires energy harvesting transducers, and it requires Ultra-Low Power (ULP) electronics. This paper reviews the generic, system requirements of self-powered electronic systems and highlights selected research topics in their design.
