Abstract :
In this paper, a beamsteering system is presented that can be used in UMTS terminals. It utilizes the transmit power control commands of the fast loop power control to iteratively determine the antenna weights. Performance results for 3 different practical algorithms for different quantization of the relative antenna phase are shown. A novel algorithm is proposed that shows improved performance especially for a coarse quantization of the antenna phase and thus relaxes requirements on the resolution of the employed phase shifters.
