Abstract :
To investigate the spreading characteristics of a molecularly thin lubricant film applied on a magnetic disk surface, thickness and surface force distributions in the spreading region of the lubricant were measured by using a scanning ellipsometer and an atomic force microscope, respectively, and the relationship between the surface force and lubricant thickness was revealed.
