Abstract :
The merging of video, audio, graphics and communications technology in a digital environment has opened a new and rapidly changing market. To reach the levels of functionality, performance and cost for volume production of consumer computing products new highly integrated systems are needed, These systems require low cost hardware platforms that can support many different standards and applications running in software. The core of these platforms is a microprocessor capable of handling these data types and supporting the range of new applications, focusing on both software and hardware challenges and how these have been solved in an innovative new family of 32/64 bit microprocessors
