Abstract :
We applied the method of surrogate data to detect the nonlinearity embedded in the signal of blood volume pulsation during rest and step-climbing exercises. It was found that the observed data during rest is significantly inconsistent with the hypothesis of a stationary, possibly rescaled, linear Gaussian noise, while the significance was obviously weakened during exercise.
