Abstract :
We report on a novel kind of optical device based on the Faraday effect, which allows very fast and linear rotation of the polarization plane (risetimes of few us are easily achieved together with rotations of 20 degrees) without interrupting the optical path. It can easily be employed as amplitude modulator if followed by an appropriate polarizer which can be also realized with an all optical fiber system
