Abstract :
A review on the characterization of optical wave propagation in photonic devices using the finite element method is presented. Modal solutions of linear, nonlinear, anisotropic, and active waveguides and light-wave propagation through nonlinear devices are discussed along with the characterization of photonic devices, including optical modulators, switches, filters, and lasers
