Abstract
The surge behaviour of a vertically buried short rod fed by a direct lightning arc is studied. The electrostatic effect due to the thin channel and the soil ionisation surrounding the rod are taken into account. The overall nonlinear modeling thus given has been adopted for a careful estimate of the earthing´s surge resistance and potential rise
