Abstract :
In circuit-switched networks, when multiple traffic streams are offered to a link, the modelling of each stream on an individual basis is cumbersome. The approach in existing studies has been to model the aggregate traffic stream offered to the link, determine the blocking experienced by the aggregate stream and then use splitting formulae to determine the blocking experienced by the individual streams. The problem with these formulae is that, although they are accurate during overload conditions, they appear to be prone to larger errors during underload and nominal load conditions. This paper presents a new method for determining individual stream blocking probabilities in circuit-switched networks. This method uses a different approach to obtaining splitting formulae and is accurate for most types of traffic conditions. The proposed method was tested using a simple circuit and was shown to approximate simulation results better than three existing techniques
