Abstract
An attempt is made to establish some relationships between physical and chemical properties of studied soils and their spectral answers. Samples of soils have been collected from four areas in the countryside of Madrid (Spain) and its properties have been experimentally determined at a laboratory where spectral measures have been recorded in the 500 to 2000 nm range. Reflectance values from TM data were based fundamentally on the acquisition image date and the relative position of the sun and the sensor with respect to scene position. An acceptable grade of correlation between these two reflectance measures is achieved when atmospheric effects, such as the Rayleigh effect, are considered
