Abstract :
Compared to other methods of model reduction in power systems such as modal analysis or coherency based methods, singular perturbation analysis has the advantages of retaining the physical identity of state variables and requiring less preprocessing of data. In this paper, the asymptotic expansion method is applied to the nonlinear model of a single machine infinite bus system with exciter and governor representation. The computational strategies and benefits are quantified through a three machine linearized model example.
