Abstract
A method for reconstructing ellipsoids from their three projection contours is described. The line integral projection of an ellipsoid with uniform density is developed for any projection view. Our reconstruction algorithm starts with the detection of projection contours having an elliptic shape. Three sets of estimated ellipse parameters are then used in reconstructing the ellipsoid. The method takes into account background, noise and blurring. The performance of the method is evaluated for various types of background structures, different ellipsoid dimensions and different levels of noise. The results demonstrate the validity and usefulness of the proposed method
