Abstract
In this paper, a new speed measurement, based on fast Fourier transform (FFT) computation of stator current spectrum, is proposed. This current contains slot harmonics from which the speed is deduced. It is shown how the accuracy of speed measurement can be improved by choosing a convenient window for before FFT calculation. Experimental results are given to demonstrate the application of the proposed detection method on a squirrel cage induction motor fed by a pulse width modulation voltage source inverter (PWM-VSI)
