Abstract
The authors describe a 100-MHz (data-rate) 5000-element CCD (charge-coupled device) linear image sensor with 20.3 mu V/electron amplifier sensitivity. A reset-pulse level-adjustment circuit with reset gate potential detector, and a self-aligned technique to minimize floating diffusion node capacitance are used to achieve this performance. The speed is triple and the sensitivity is twice that of conventional linear image sensors with more than 5000-elements. This performance enables 50- mu s line scan time for a 11-in sheet with 400-dot-per-inch (DPI) resolution.<>
