Abstract
This paper describes a nonlinear fuzzy controller which can control highly nonlinear processes. In general nonlinear processes can be seen as linear processes working in a confined operating region, this region can be characterized by the input, the output of some of the state variables. The controller structure has two layers: the first layer is a fuzzy controller, representing the knowledge about the use of proportional and integrative controller, and the second one is a set of PI controllers. Some guidelines about how to tune this controller are also described. Simulations and experimental results show the potentialities and limitations of this approach
