Abstract
The aim of this paper is to give a new model of vibration of the vocal cords. We consider that they may be modelized by two continuous beams, fastened with springs and dampers and excited by air coming from lungs. The flow is assumed to be a Bernouilli one. We write the flexural equations of motion with boundary conditions. The system is non-linear according to aerodynamic forces acting on beams. We solve these equations on the modal basis for the free and the forced solutions. The projection of the equations on the modal basis gives the classical "two-mass" model for the first mode. A numerical simulation of relaxation oscillations is performed.
