Abstract :
Optimal preventive maintenance policy for a system of machines with random breakdown and repairs and subject to availability and/or reliability constraints is derived using a bilinear control model. The optimal policy is shown to be bang-bang with singular parts. The model takes into account the waiting line at the repair facility and does not ignore the transient phase of the system operation.
