Abstract :
This paper investigates the performance of Vee dipole antennas with novel arm configurations for ultra wideband applications. The antennas are designed to work over the frequency band from 3 to 11 GHz. Impedance bandwidth and radiation pattern characteristics for different antenna designs are compared and discussed. Dipole arms with matching strips in the feeding region along with tapering of the longitudinal length (L) are selected to support radiation in the desired direction. Parametric study is conducted on the appropriate Vee angle, arm length and arm shape on the antenna characteristics. Finally methods to increase directivity and reduce the back radiation are investigated; scaled shaped arms are used as directors.
