Abstract
A session at the 1981 JACC in Charlottesville was devoted to the development of two test examples for adaptive control. The two candidate processes were derived by two panelist pairs from the aerospace (Franklin and Stein) and the chemical process (Foss and Monopoli) control domains. The purpose was to distill those process characteristics suggesting application of adaptive control and to provide practically meaningful test examples for comparison of various adaptive schemes. This paper presents the proposed benchmark models and encourages reader participation in the second "edition" of this panel discussion to be presented as session TP1 on Thursday, December 17, 1981 at the 20th CDC in San Diego.
