Abstract :
A modified hybrid channel assignment scheme (MHCA) for micro-cellular mobile radio system is introduced. This algorithm is based on the conventional hybrid channel allocation scheme with reassignment and looking forward strategies. The reassignment strategy is activated when a call is terminated on a fixed channel to switch a call in progress in a dynamic channel. Also, another switching scheme between dynamic channels is proposed to enhance the performance. The forward-looking strategy is used in order to obtain a better performance at high traffic loads. Computer simulation experiments on a 49 hexagonal cellular system show the superiority of the modified hybrid scheme as compared to other hybrid channel assignment schemes reported elsewhere
