Abstract
A simplified computer model to simulate the thermal performance of a vapor-compression air conditioner has been developed. The analytical model was created to predict the performance of a generic air conditioner using a broad range of refrigerants. A loss-efficiency compressor model was developed, assuming that displacement, operational speed, volumetric efficiency and isentropic efficiency information are available. Volumetric and isentropic efficiencies were used to quantify the compressor performance departures from the theoretical cycle. Air conditioner performance using various refrigerants has been successfully demonstrated. Model sensitivity to changes in volumetric efficiency, isentropic efficiency, and to evaporator sensible heat ratio have been documented
