Abstract :
The use of the semiconductor laser in OptoElectronic Integrated Circuits (OEICs) requires the development of automatic control systems for the configurations complexity due also to various semiconductor laser types. One of the problems to face in the analysis of the optical transmission systems employing a semiconductor laser is the need to keep the output optical power level constant by offsetting the device parameters changes that are a function of the temperature and the gradual performances degradation with time. The role of the output optical power level automatic control is very important to assure the laser performances in right conditions for the whole lifetime. In the high-speed digital circuits the transmitted pulse is characterized by an unchanged pattern and constant associated energy, for this motive the control system developed and proposed presents two feedback loops for processing independently the DC and AC components of the optical output. The results coming from comparisons among different automatic control system configurations are explained by model definition and simulation development
