Abstract

The authors report on some aspects of the development of a wireless multimedia testbed at the Communications Research Centre (CRC) in Ottawa, Ontario. The project is at its `proof-of-concept´ stage. Data, voice, and images are exchanged over a wireless LAN. Initially, commercially available wireless communication cards, voice, and image interface equipment, are used. The authors discuss the applicability of the TCP, UDP and IP protocols in this environment. Initial performance results on the measured voice quality, delays, and throughput for simultaneous image and voice transfers is presented
