  • Abstract
DS CDMA is shown to provide more capacity than the proposed AMPS-D cellular standard. In order to achieve this capacity improvement, it is necessary to use antenna diversity with a 2 or 3-tap RAKE receiver. The degree of improvement depends on the type of detection and diversity combining being used, and the amount of channel dispersion. In order to achieve uniform quality of service throughout the coverage area it is shown that it is necessary to use power control on both the forward and reverse channels
