Abstract
The paper explores the use of fixed wireless access technology as a means of providing local loop telecommunications service. It begins by discussing the applications of, and requirements for, an economical fixed wireless access system. Existing systems are then evaluated based on their ability to provide such service. The features of a system designed specifically to provide economical fixed wireless access service are outlined, and steps toward the realization of such a system are discussed
