Abstract
This paper presents the features and applications of a new numerical method named vector form intrinsic finite element method (VFIFE). Differences between vector form intrinsic finite element and traditional finite element method are summarized firstly. Then it reviews the applications of this method in engineering and research fields, finally, the imperfect aspects of the method are supplemented. Existing studies show that this method can analyze and predict the discontinuous behaviors such as large deformation, fracture, collision more accurately in a great many fields including numerical simulation of fire response of structure, bridge seismic and performance of FRP confined concrete structures and so on.
