Abstract
In this paper we present a survey on existing construction algorithms to generate Reversible Variable Length Codes (RVLCs). RVLCs are type of Variable Length Codes (VLCs) capable of decoding in forward as well as backward directions. For its error resilient properties RVLCs have been widely adopted in data transmission schemes using wireless transmission channel. Nowadays, RVLCs have replaced Huffman codes in video codec and image codec for data compression.
