Abstract
Presently available or announced micro or signal processors have such computing power that time sharing of several identical sub-band coders can be considered on a real time basis. This paper deals with the multiport implementation of several real time 16Kbps sub-band coders on a single microprocessor. It is the intent of this paper to show that time sharing of a multiport system can be organized to reduce the program size, data size and processing requirements. In the last part of the paper, the software approach used to develop the 16Kbps time shared processing software is discussed with emphasis on its general top-down design.
