Abstract :
The goal of intelligent networks (IN) is to realize a control architecture with an open-ended functionality that allows new features to be introduced in a simple manner. One of the objectives of the asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is to provide flexible broadband transport resources, allowing multimedia calls to be created in a simple manner. The authors examine the relationship between the goals of ATM and IN. The background of and motivation for the work is described, and some ATM aspects that relate to IN are discussed. A brief overview of the fundamental synergy between ATM and IN is presented
