Abstract :
This paper presents a new gigabit optical receiver structure with a circuit of loss of signal (LOS). The LOS is placed between the transimpedance amplifier (TIA) and the limiting amplifier (LA) of the optical receiver, so as to mute the data output signal when the input voltage falls below the expected threshold. The optical receiver provides a conversion gain up to 79.01dB Ω. and -3dB bandwidth of 3.85GHz from a dynamic range of 40μApp-200μApp input currents. When the input current amplitude is below 20μApp, the limiting amplifier is turned off by the LOS. The simulation results also show that the LOS circuit achieves 74.49% power saving when the input signal of the optical receiver is below 20μApp.
