Abstract :
A major international RBMK safety review project managed by AEA technology and funded by the CEC TACIS Programme, and the governments of Canada, Sweden and Finland is assessing the safety of RBMK reactors as operated in Russia, Lithuania and Ukraine. RBMK reactors have been the subject of numerous other safety studies by other eastern and western European organisations and Canada. Their objectives were, by necessity, not consistent (for example, identifying the deficiencies, reviewing and assessing the safety, checking the existing safety reports, establishing western style safety justifications). However, they share a common technical content in many areas. As a result a considerable number of safety recommendations have already been published. The problem is to categorise and evaluate these recommendations
