  • Abstract
This paper presents a new technique for the control of switched reluctance motors (SRM), SRMs are considered more desirable for certain applications due to their extremely simple construction and fault tolerant operation. Unfortunately, the high nonlinearities make it difficult to derive tractable and accurate mathematical models and hence, conventional control algorithms. Fuzzy logic control is ideally suited to the control of systems with uncertain characteristics. In this paper fuzzy logic control is applied to the design of a SRM velocity controller. Several simulations are given and the results are discussed. Also, an adaptive algorithm is presented that minimizes the torque and speed ripple even in the presence of unknown systems nonlinearities and changes in system parameters
