Abstract :
The treatment of low temperature and low turbidity water is a worldwide challenge. Direct filtration with micro-flocculation is a simple and economic method to purity such a source water. This paper investigated the performance of this method to treat a low-temperature and low-turbidity reservoir water in pilot scale. The filter used was a rapid sand filter with quartz sand-Anthracite dual-media, and the coagulant was the polymerization aluminum (PAC). It was found that dual-media was superior for organic removal. The CODMn of effluent was less than 3mg/L, the UV254 removal rate was greater than 50%, and the effluent turbidity was less than 0.5NTU. The suggested PAC dosage was 16mg/L. When the filtration rate was 4m/h, the filter cycle would be 12h.
