Abstract
Four flavors of multicast connections (MCs) are defined over a wide-area multicast packet switching network (MPSN). The network-layer sending/receiving relationship for an MC is represented by a transmission matrix (TM). By employing a packet flow model, some necessary and sufficient conditions for various flavors of MCs to support a given TM are derived. A multicast routing algorithm is also given to illustrate MC setup. A testbed based on the MARS multicast packet switch has been built. In this testbed, call processing software can establish several flavors of MCs
