Abstract :
A new approach for an embedded image codec based on the wavelet transform (WT) and auto-adaptive block coding of binary position information is presented. The method, which treats sub-bands independently is simple and efficient. Experimental results show its performance to be close to that of the zero-tree codec even without further entropy coding. In addition, the codec is scalable with no corresponding implementation loss of coding efficiency
