Abstract :
We discuss the development of an interactive planning and decision support process that allows the decisionmaker, rather than a paradigm, to iteratively select the mix of parameter value precision and alternative ranking specificity in multiple criteria decision situations. This process permits the decisionmaker to choose a behaviorally meaningful, rational approach to nondominated alternative selection that incorporates parameter imprecision. The parameters that can be imprecisely described are: probabilities, alternative scores on lowest level attributes, and attribute tradeoff weights. Emphasis is placed on the motivation of the research and the behavioral relevance of the support process. References in the bibliography provide further analytical and behavioral discussions related to this process.
