Abstract :
This paper illustrates the simple yet rigorous steps that can be followed to appropriately tune power system stabilizers (PSSs). The paper also shows the field tests that can be performed to verify stabilizer performance. The procedures are illustrated with the results of a PSS application at a new 1800 MW combined-cycle power plant in Northeastern England. Tuning and field testing are proven to be a rapid and efficient process. The whole process from stabilizer tuning to tuning implementation and testing at the plant site was completed in less than two weeks
