Abstract
A dual-polarized, coherent X -band radar system tailored specifically to the demands of research use has been developed. A field experiment in June 1989 conducted from a coastal site in Newfoundland involved the collection of radar data for an iceberg, a growler, sea clutter, a buoy-mounted reflector, and a waverider buoy. The analysis of the radar returns from these various targets is discussed. Comparison of their time-varying spectra shows that the targets can be distinguished from the sea clutter background, and, in addition, some target characteristics may be deduced
