Abstract
As an important aspect in the design of a power system stabilizer (PSS) the interarea modes are taken into account. This paper presents the underlying theory of a robust H∞ (H infinity norm) PSS with an enlarged damping range. Test results from various turbosets are included. The paper outlines a linearized model which is based on plant data. A new design procedure according to the new H∞ approach is given, as well as a discussion of implementation results. High performance is verified for different turbosets using time and frequency analysis during commissioning
