Abstract :
A number of utilities have implemented during the years different technological platforms for the management of their generation, transmission and distribution assets. In fact a number of these utilities in Latin America have already implemented four or more generations of SCADA systems and perhaps a less number of EMS and DMS suite of applications. Combined with these platforms is the geographical information system platform that provides the source of data mainly for the distribution management functions. ENELVEN is in the process of implementing a migration to an integrated ERP (SAP), GIS, SCADA, EMS and DMS system partly with new components (GIS) and partly with new versions of existing components (SCADA/EMS/DMS) in one single project. This paper presents an analysis of the main problems detected from the previous platform, ENELVEN objectives for the migration and the required improvements and solutions that will be implemented with the contracted hardware and software platform. The papers presents the tasks, logistics and schedule designed for the migration from the existing platform to the new one considering the extra challenge of not compromising the operation of the ENELVEN power system. Newly detected needs of control center backup and security aspects are also discussed. Finally the main benefits expected from this project are presented, guidelines for the preparation of a technical work for the IEEE power engineering society are presented.
