Abstract :
A predictive rollover index is investigated in this work. The vehicle frontal road geometry and the on-line estimated driver information are incorporated into an existing rollover index to provide the rollover indication at an early stage. Both the frontal road curvature and the current road bank angle are considered in the road information. The on-line estimated driver model needs to be selected by a screening process to rule out incorrectly estimated driver models. Driving simulator experiments and physical vehicle road tests are both conducted to collect human driving data to evaluate the proposed predictive rollover index. The preliminary results show promising benefits in generating a reasonable predictive rollover index.
