  • Abstract
Correct genotype identification of medicinal plant material remains important for Chinese traditional medicine. Limitations of chemical and morphological approaches for authentication have generated need for newer methods in discrimination of famous-region herbal medicines. The present study was carried out to develop DNA based markers for identification of Chinese famous-region drug Ophiopogon japonicus (L.f.) Ker-Gawl. Two specific RAPD fragments R01 (268bp) and R02 (1364bp) for famous-region drug Ophiopogon japonicus (L.f.) Ker-Gawl were identified by Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD). Sequence Characterized Amplified Region (SCAR) markers (248bp & 631bp) were developed from the RAPD amplicon. The SCAR markers were found useful for identification of genuine regional Ophiopogon japonicus ( L.f. ) Ker-Gawl in four different populations.
